Doug Tompson

Dr. Doug Tompson is the Department's Latin American historian. He received his Ph.D. in History from the University of Florida in 2001. Dr. Tompson's research focuses on Central America in the 18th and 19th centuries, and examines questions of race, ethnicity and national identity. His most recent publication is the forthcoming essay, "The Establecimientos Costeros of Bourbon Central America, 1787-1800: Problems and Paradox in Spains Occupation of the Atlantic Coast", in The Social and Political Impact of the Bourbon Reforms in Central America, 1759-1808 (University Press of Colorado, 2005). He teaches courses in U.S. History as well as Latin American History.
