History scholarships

Alfonso Biggs Scholarship

Awarded to a deserving high school student, majoring in history, who has been accepted into the CSU freshman class and who demonstrates outstanding academic achievement, skills and interest in history, the potential to contribute to the collegiate environment, and financial need.

This award may be renewable for three years while the student continues in the discipline of History and maintains a 3.0 cumulative average and a 3.3 average in history.

Amount of the award will be determined by the availability of funds.

For the 2008-09 academic year, applications must be received by September 15, 2008.

Applications should include:

• Your name, address, & phone number
• Your high school transcript
• One letter of recommendation from a high school history teacher
• Family financial statement
• An original essay, limited to 200 words, in which you explain your commitment to the study of history at Columbus State University.

Elizabeth Kyle Spencer Scholarship

Awarded annually to a history major with 60-90 cumulative hours, who has demonstrated excellence in the study of history. Applicants should submit an up-to-date transcript and two letters of recommendation from history faculty. Applications should be placed in a manila envelope with applicant’s name on the front. Patty Chappel, administrative assistant for the History & Geography Department, will accept these applications.

Deadline for submission is September 15, 2008.

Recipients of the award will be notified by mail.
