Alice Pate

Dr. Alice Pate teaches the world history survey, Russian history, historical methods, and topics courses in comparative communism, revolution and social movements. She has coedited with Michael Melancon, New Labor History: Worker Identity and Experience in Russia, 1840-1918 (Slavica 2002). Some recent articles include "Bakhtin contra Marx and Lenin: A Polyphonic Approach to Russia's Labor and Revolutionary Movements" (co-authored by Michael Melancon) Russian History (Spring 2005), "The Implementation of Social Insurance Law of 1912" in Russia in the European Context: A Member of the Family, 1789-1914, (Palgrave MacMillan, 2005) and "Obshchestvennost' and St. Petersburg Workers, 1906-1914" Revolutionary Russia, (December 2002.) Her manuscript, Failure of Unity: The Liquidationist Controversy and the St. Petersburg Metalworkers' Union, 1906-1914, a study of Russian Social Democracy is under consideration.

Dr. Pate is President-Elect of the Georgia Association of Historians, past president of the Southeast World History Association and Chair of the Regent'a Academic Advisory Committee on History. She also serves on the Social Studies Advsiory Council to the Georgia Department of Education.
