Jennifer Moody

Dr. Moody received her doctorate from Auburn University in August, 2003, and began teaching at Columbus State University in January, 2005. Her doctoral dissertation, In His Image: The Ideal Woman of Seventeenth-Century France, focuses on the elite in seventeenth-century France and their views of what constituted an ideal woman. Since her research material was both the fiction and the non-fiction of the period, her previous studies in both the French language and French literature were put to good use. Dr. Moody has an earned masters of French Studies and a bachelors degree in International Business, both of which are from Auburn University. She has also done doctoral studies in French at the Pennsylvania State University. She taught both French and German after earning her masters degree, and she continues to teach French at Auburn University on an adjunct basis. Dr. Moody has been teaching history since January, 2000.

Dr. Moody’s research interests lie especially within the social, cultural and religious history of medieval and early-modern France, but also within that same time period in England. She also enjoys researching those areas of life in colonial America. At Columbus State University, she teaches both of the World Civilization courses (History 1111 and 1112) on a regular basis. In addition, during Fall, 2006, Dr. Moody also taught a senior-graduate level lecture course in French history (History 5575: “France: 1300-1715").

As an Army brat, Dr. Moody has had the opportunity to travel a good deal and has lived in France and Germany as well as several different regions of the United States. And, in addition to her native English, she also speaks both French and German.
