- Dr. Becky Matthews, who holds a Ph.D. from Auburn University, specializes in American Indian History and the history of women in the United States. She is editor of Alma Snell’s autobiography, Grandmother’s Grandchild, My Crow Indian Life, published in 2000 by the University of Nebraska Press. Currently she is writing the narrative for a book of photographs taken by early missionaries to the Crow people. During the summer of 2004, she served as a visiting professor in American Studies at Russian American Christian University in Moscow; and she has been invited to return in 2005. A Columbus native who taught in the local school system before pursuing a decidedly non-traditional path to her doctorate, Dr. Matthews has used a Woodruff Foundation grant to create a curriculum guide of lesson plans and resources on the history and culture of Indian communities in this area.. Away from academia, she enjoys spending time with her seven grandchildren, who teach her something new every day.
