Alan Barenberg


Dr. Alan Barenberg received his Ph.D. in history from the University of Chicago in August 2007. He offers courses in world history, European history, Russian and Soviet history, and the history of Central Asia. His most recent publications include "Prisoners Without Borders: Zazonniki and the Transformation of Vorkuta after Stalin," forthcoming in the fall 2009 issue of the Jahrbücher für Geschichte Osteuropas, and "From Prisoners to Citizens? The Experience of Ex-Prisoners in Vorkuta, 1953-1965" in The Thaw: Soviet Society and Culture in the 1950s and 1960s, forthcoming from Cornell University Press. Dr. Barenberg is currently revising a manuscript entitled "From Prison Camp to Company Town: the Gulag and its Legacy in Vorkuta." He lives in Auburn, Alabama with his wife Abby and daughter Ruby.
